Becca's Favorite Things: My Beloved Essential Oil Diffusers

Whew, it has been a whirlwind of Christmas and New Years awesomeness but now it is time for me to get back into the jive and do my soapy thing. With that said, even though the Christmas season has gone by, I still want to continue “Becca’s Favorite Things”. Just because it isn’t Christmas doesn’t mean that you can’t spend some Amazon cash or pick up a gift for someone who may need a little bit of sunshine. Also, as I’m continuously adding to my list of items that make life more rad, I thought that maybe some of you might not yet be privy to their awesomeness and this could become a regular thing. Conversely, if you have something that you ABSOLUTELY LOVE, I would be happy to acquire one for myself or even have you as a guest blogger.

Ok, enough of the dribble and on to the topic of my blog. Today, I’d like to feature one of my top ten absolute favorite additions to my home. What is it? Da…da…da! It is my essential oil diffuser.

What is a diffuser? A diffuser is a device that uses ultrasonic waves to vaporize water then essential oils in the water are carried off into the air of the surrounding environment. Why is a diffuser beneficial? Well, every user has different reasons as a diffuser has many applications. Dentists and doctors have been known to diffuse calming blends to help with those that suffer anxiety during treatment. I have also heard of teachers using blends in their classrooms that are said to increase mental acuity. Many of my friends diffuse anti-viral and anti-bacterial oils to help stave off sickness.

Why do I use mine and why have more than one? Well, I use mine for two reasons. First, and foremost, is the fact that I firmly believe in the medicinal and therapeutic properties of essential oils*. If I feel a headache coming on I will diffuse some peppermint. If my brain is still going way past bedtime, I will drop in some frankincense and lavender and catch some zzz’s. If I am feeling uninspired and blah I will drop in some geranium and grapefruit. I could go on and on but fear I wouldn’t stop so on to my next reason. I LOTHE FAKE FRAGRANCES. Being a person that firmly believes in the fact that artificial fragrances are the devil is hard when you have two large Plott Hounds (and an 18-year old Jack Russell Chihuahua) who love lounging in the mud.

When I combine the diffuser with the Himalayan salt lamps you can never tell that we have some pups that love being stinky. Seriously, it was one of the most awesome discoveries of this decade for me. No more harmful candles or sprays or melts that only mask the smell. The salt lamps and the diffusers are the real and natural deal.

Diffusers come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors and prices. Like with essential oils, more expensive doesn’t always equate to being better. I have two in my house that were about $40 each. They work fabulously and aren’t huge monstrosities taking up counter and nightstand space. Amazon has a great selection for every style and budget. You can see mine below. It is by Zaq and is a cone shape. It can change colors, stay on one color, or have no color.

This one will cover my kitchen and large great room on the first floor of my home. I keep one in my bedroom that is also used in the kids’ rooms as needed.

Would you like a chance to win your very own diffuser? Of course you would so please see below on how to enter.   The only thing that I ask is if you already have one please give your winnings (or even your old diffuser) to someone who could benefit from one.  You have a chance for a total of 3 entries.  For one entry, comment on the blog.  For a second entry, like Bars by Becca on Facebook.  After the first two are completed you will have a chance to earn a third entry by sharing the blog to your personal Facebook page.

Until next time, keep on keeping on and happy bathing!

XOXO,

*Before you jump into the deep end with essential oils, do your due diligence. Some oils are ok for any age or stage in life while there are some that should be avoided. Also, just because I believe in the power of essential oils doesn’t mean that I don’t believe in most modern pharmaceuticals. It is a balance and often times they end up complimenting each other. Do your research and you will be fine. Feel free to message me as well and I can direct you towards some fabulous resources.
